a couple of days back when i went to IOI Plaza for my semiannual dental treatment, as i was searching for a place to have lunch after the dental, i stumbled upon one of the best Pork Rib Prawn Noodles i’ve ever eaten. perhaps its due to the fact that i hadn’t had anything to eat all day and it was already 3pm, but Parklane Noodle was such a delightful surprise, i’m sure to be walking out the extra distance to Fortune Centre if i’m in the Dhoby Ghaut area just to have a bowl of noodles from them.
mum was actually the one who suggested for me to go to Fortune Centre to look for a place to have lunch. as i strutted into the shopping centre, i was greeted by many small eateries on the ground level. Fortune Centre has many vegetarian eats and probably seemingly popular for them possibly due to its close proximity to the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple at Waterloo Street. not very much of a pure vegetarian, i popped by Parklane Noodle as i was looking for something soupy to have for a late lunch.
i was served shortly after i sat down, and at first glance of the bowl of noodles i immediately noticed the very thick soup base despite the noodles looking rather normal. what i knew from my first impressions was that the pork rib was boiled for a very long period for sure, as its colouration is dark and i was sure that the meat would break apart easily when i bite into it. the prawns were medium size, not the large or extra large sized ones you can get from other places, but reasonably fresh.
true enough, the soup stock used was sooooooo thick, after taking a first sip of it, all my sensory glands on my tongue was screaming for me to have a second sip, and a third sip, and a fourth sip and more! the pork rib was very tender as predicted, simmered to close perfection. prawns were alittle teng, possibly due to overcooking but just a wee bit only. the prawns were fresh. my throat itches slightly if i have seafood that isn’t fresh, no such occurrence this time. noodles were tangy, but i would’ve preferred if it were soaked for a wee bit longer.
in my chat with the boss, 巫先生, he told me that he’s of teochew descent. in my opinion, this is Pork Rib Prawn Noodle is a winner for its tender pork ribs and super shiok soup base, though it could do better if its prawns and noodles were better done. 4/5
